Human Design Diaries #3: Conscious Sun
Your essence. Your radiance. Your conscious self-expression.
Third in a five-part mini-series of insights into Human Design and how the system has helped me reconnect to my true self.
If you missed my earlier post on my intro to Human Design, take a look here.
Conscious Sun
We have discussed Aura (how you interact with the world) and Profile (the role you play in life), now it is time to cover the Conscious Sun, which is 70% of your personality. It is the energy you radiate, and how you shine in this world.
There are 64 gates in Human Design, only one of these will be your Conscious Sun. Each gate falls under one of the 12 astrological star (sun) signs.
My sun sign is Sagittarius. In Human Design there are 6 possible conscious sun gates for a Sagittarian depending on the day they are born.
As an example, below are the six gates in Sagittarius, each with a different energy:
Gate 5: The Gate of Patterns - the energy for maintaining and following rhythms, routines, and patterns in life.
Gate 26: The Gate of the Egoist - the energy to influence others, communicating in a compelling or strategic way.
Gate 11: The Gate of Ideas - the energy to generate ideas and possibilities, through a creative or contemplative process.
Gate 10: The Gate of Behaviour of the Self - the energy of living true to your values, self-love and authentic expression.
Gate 58: The Gate of the Joy of Life - the energy to correct, perfect, and bring joy through continual improvement and the betterment of life.
Gate 38: The Gate of the Fighter - the energy of the warrior, fighting for purpose and meaning, standing up for what you believe in.
I like to combine my knowledge of Astrology with Human Design. Each of these gates reflects an aspect Sagittarius - the quest for meaning, expansion, and the pursuit of truth, but with more specificity.
My conscious sun gate is Gate 5: The Gate of Fixed Patterns. I radiate an air of consistency, structure and flow. I bring stability and calmness to those around me, helping others find balance and ease in the flow of life. This is the highest expression of my gate when living in alignment with my true self. This is what others see in me, 70% of my personality. It is my unique essence.
In the Gene Keys, which builds on Human Design, the shadow of Gate 5 is Impatience - a sense of frustration and restlessness when things do not happen as expected, struggling with the natural flow of life and resisting the natural timing of events. I certainly felt this way in the early stages of my career transition.
The gift of Gate 5 is Patience - trusting that everything happens in its own perfect timing, aligning to the natural rhythms and cycles of life. This is something that I feel on a daily basis now. My mantra is “Trust that the Universe has my back”, and every time I say it to myself, my whole body relaxes. I have even had friends say to me how calm and relaxed I am nowadays and how I make them feel the same way.
How has this helped me in my career transition?
It took me a while to grasp the meaning of my conscious sun and how it translates into my life. I was probably living in the shadow, Impatience, at the time!
I know I thrive on routine - the only time I’ve committed to regular exercise is with a training plan. Others may prefer to choose what exercise they do depending on how they feel that day, which is a recipe for zero exercise for me!
I always created structure in my previous roles as a project manager, my brain thrives when things are organised and it is easy to retrieve information.
After leaving my corporate job working 10-12 hour days, 5 days a week, I lost my routine (but regained my life). I then threw myself into a structured Business Sustainability Management course for 9 weeks, thriving on the weekly consistency of modules dropping, assignment submissions and tutorial sessions. When the course finished, my structure and routine disappeared. It is only looking back now that I realise that was the first time I felt lost and pretty lonely in my career shift, a feeling that came back a few times.
However, I needed to take time to heal from the intensity of my previous work, something that I hadn’t allowed myself to do yet.
By embracing the gift of Patience this year, being in tune with Nature’s rhythms, and trusting in divine timing, things have shifted pretty quickly. It has been fun to see what has happened when I started to follow the Universal breadcrumbs, a story I will cover in another post.
I have embraced my design of thriving on routine, structure and consistency, and feel so much more productive. I also do not lose my flow when things crop up that disrupt that routine. This is the key. As my Human Design teacher and mentor,
so beautifully described the essence of Gate 5:“It is like a river flowing its course, being in flow with life and moving strategically when life brings us lessons. Surrender to be guided, think of how a river flows downstream, it is pulled by a bigger force and just glides over rocks and debris and keeps on flowing”
This was the the lightbulb moment for me to embrace my radiance - how I’m here to shine!
My mentoring sessions are structured, with the flexibility to adapt depending on what is intuitively needed and I am enjoying creating my upcoming “Reconnect to You” program, with the structure people have come to expect from me :-)
Human Design can offer many insights into how to live in alignment with your true self, empowering you to embrace your uniqueness. It is a tool for self-awareness, guiding you to make decisions that are aligned with your true nature rather than external expectations.
It is an experiment, not a rule book—it is about discovering what works best for you and learning to trust your own inner compass as you navigate life.
Find out your conscious sun and drop me a note in the comments if you’d like me to share how you are here to shine!
Look out for the next Human Design Diaries when I will cover the North Node.
